The Lower Mainland Ringette League has heard that one of it's builders and alumni, Jim Wright of Langley, passed away on September 20, 2025. Our thoughts are with his wife Leona, his family and his friends.
Jim wore many hats within the ringette community dating back to the late 70s, early 80s when his daughters started playing ringette. Jim was involved with the Aldergrove Ringette Association and the Langley Ringette Association, which would eventually amalgamate to become the Fraser Valley Ringette Association in 1996. He was a coach at the association level as well as at the all-star level where he represented the province at several national championships.
Jim also served the ringette community as a ringette camp instructor at the Osoyoos Ringette School, a board member with the Langley Ringette Association, an official, and an overall great supporter of the sport. He remained involved in ringette as a coach and a referee long after his daughters stopped playing and continued to come out and watch ringette games even after hanging up his own skates. Last year, Jim participated in the 50th anniversary of ringette in BC's alumni games where he connected with old friends and coached one of the alumni teams.
A celebration of life will be held for Jim Wright on Thursday, October 9th at 11:00am at the North Langley Community Church (24687 56ave, Langley). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fraser Valley Gleaners is appreciated as Jim and Leona volunteered there weekly.
